چکیده
Raw earth is emerging as a viable building material with lower carbon emissions than conventional concrete and fired bricks. an excellent passive hygro-thermal regulator, which improves occupants’ comfort while reducing the need for active heating/cooling installations. The coupled response of materials investigated by exploiting principles thermodynamics porous media unsaturated soil mechanics. degree coupling between temperature relative humidity (or water content) depends on adopted simplifying assumptions. Some these assumptions are valid traditional but may not be applicable to raw characterised relatively high levels liquid/gas permeability. validity current approaches here assessed reference via simple one-dimensional transfer model, simulates behaviour unbounded wall subjected time-dependent boundary conditions two faces. For typical values vapour permeability, complexity governing equations can greatly reduced neglecting variations mass dependency suction without significantly accuracy. Results also strongly influenced both initial state retention properties material.

Hygro-Thermal Transient Analysis for Highly Stable Structures
This paper presents the results obtained with the simulations of a sandwich rectangular plate made of carbon/epoxy composite when subjected to temperature and humidity cycles. Fickian diffusion process, moisture transport along the interfaces and damage caused by slipping and debonding between the components of the microscopic structure are considered. The application of the design methodology ...
متن کاملIdentification of basic thermal technical characteristics of building materials
Modelling of building heat transfer needs two basic material characteristics: heat conduction factor and thermal capacity. Under some simplifications these two factors can be determined from a rather simple equipment, generating heat from one of two aluminium plates into the material sample and recording temperature on the contacts between the sample and the plates. However, the numerical evalu...
متن کاملHygro-Thermal Nonlinear Analysis of a Functionally Graded Beam
Nonlinear behavior of a functionally graded cantilever beam is analyzed under non-uniform hygro-thermal effect. To solve this problem, finite element method is applied within plane solid continua. Total Lagrangian approach is utilized in the nonlinear kinematic relations. Newton-Raphson method with incremental displacement is used in nonlinear solution. Comparison study is performed. Effects of...
متن کاملFluid Movement in Earth Materials
An analytical method of determining the ionic diffusion transverse to the direction of flow in granular media is presented. The basic assumption that the frontal zone created by longitudinal dispersion is fully developed and stationary before the transverse diffusion can cause spreading is made to simplify the mathematical analysis. Solutions were obtained in terms of both a series of Bessel's ...
متن کاملEstimating radiation dose from building materials
Background: Natural radioactivity in materials under certain conditions can reach the hazardous radiological levels. So, it becomes necessary to study the natural radioactivity in different materials to assess the dose for the population in order to know the health risks and to have a baseline for future changes in the environmental radioactivity due to human activities. Materials and ...
